White Coyote on My Path

A Poem

I had a
mystical moment
hiking today

taking a break
sitting on
the pine-needled earth

I first heard
the mournful howl
of a coyote
close by

she sang
a few notes
and then
all was quiet

I continued on my hike
and there
ahead on the path
I saw her

white fur
a rare sight
serene in her being

we spied one another
simultaneously

eye contact made

a dog?
no

she was alone
and as she veered off trail
she had that sly
wild gait about her

coyote for sure
cunning trickster
on my path

I was transported
to her world
coyote world

reminding me
of the beauty
of nature

and how to be
wild and free

I felt elated
and continued
on the trail

in awe
with magic
in my heart

feeling like
I had just encountered
a mythical beast

Thank you for reading!
