If You Ever Get the Chance to Run Naked Through the Jungle, Do It!
Speaking from personal experience, nothing is more freeing and liberating.
When I first arrived to the Amazon jungle in Peru, I was in awe of the dudes I was hanging out with, who would walk around barefoot.
Barefoot in the jungle!
The jungle has so many hidden dangers. Although most people seem to be afraid of snakes and jaguars, it’s the tiny beasties that will get you first.
I’m talking about bugs.
Ants of all different sizes, wasps, hornets and bees with all types of stingers, invisible sand flies that bite at your feet and ankles. And of course, the infamous mosquitoes.
But these guys who were helping me in my shamanic healing retreats were so in tune with nature, and had been living remotely here in the Amazon for so long, that they were somewhat immune to all the insects.
While I had mad respect for them, they had fun teasing me, “Why are you wearing sneakers?”
And while they could easily jump up and get to a task without throwing on their shoes, I always had to stop, shake out my hiking boots, pull them on, and lace them up til I was ready to go.
I felt so slow.
